Former Hawarden Resident Dies

Maurice J. Vernon, 69, brother of Fred Vernon of Hawarden, died on Veterans Day, November 11, at his home in Long Beach, Calif., following a lingering illness. Burial was at Long Beach the following day.

Mr. Vernon was born September 5, 1890, at Parker, S.D., a son of H. H. and Ellen M. Vernon. He came to Hawarden with his parents in 1902.

In August, 1912, he married Ida M. Miller, a sister of Mrs. Earl Smith of Hawarden. Following the marriage the couple resided in Hawarden and he worked at the Bray Furniture store. After leaving Hawarden they lived in various towns in Nebraska and later settled in Long Beach.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Gordon and Blaine, both of Long Beach; four brothers, B. T. and C. I. Vernon, both of Minneapolis, Fred of Hawarden, and Robert H. of Columbus, Ohio, and six grandchildren.
