Mrs. Fred Vernon, age 83 of Hawarden, passed away at the Morningside Manor at Alcester, South Dakota on Dec. 3, 1973.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6 at the United Methodist Church at Hawarden with Rev. Herbert Gould officiating and burial in the Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Vernon was born Emma M. Rummel on Feb. 14, 1890 at Hawarden. She was united in marriage to Fred Vernon on May 24, 1911 at Hawarden. She lived in Hawarden most of her life and [was] an active member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. John (Shirley) Hill of Hawarden; and two grandsons, Dennis of Sioux City and Ronald of Hawarden. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 3, 1971 and one son, Leland.
