GRANDMA VICKERS

The sad news was received in Hull last week of the death of Grandma Vickers at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Peterson, at Mankato, Minnesota, her death occuring Tuesday, October 14th. The remains were brought to Hull Tuesday evening, and the funeral was conducted from the Methodist church Friday morning at ten-thirty by the Rev. Arthur Rasmussen, the remains being laid to rest in the family lot in Hope Cemetery.

Mrs. Vickers had attained the age of eighty-nine years one month and seventeen days, a ripe old age, and there are many who will testify that it was a beautiful life, full of love and devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by one brother, Wm. Marshall, of Hudson, South Dakota, five sons and one daughter, and a large number of grand and great grand children.

The relatives present from out of town at the funeral were Mrs. Sarah Peterson and daughter Mrs. Myrtle Flessner, of Mankato, Minn., Elias Cornforth, of Wibeau, Mont., Mr. and Mrs. George and Grant Vickers of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vickers of Howard, S.D., Wm. Marshall and sons George, James and Charles, of Hudson, S.D., Bert Horner and family of Alcester, S.D., Mrs. Joe Davis, of Presho, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Peterson, of Doon, Iowa and Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Peterson, of this place.

OBITUARY

Christiana Marshall was born at Hull, England, on the 27th day of August 1835. In 1852 she came with her parents to Boone County, Illinois. One year later she was united in marriage to John Cornforth. To this union three children were born--John, Sarah and Elias. During the Civil War her husband was wounded from which he died a short time later. In 1869 she was united in marriage to James Vickers. To this union three children were born--George, Grant and Joseph. In 1871 she with her husband moved to Northwest Iowa and resided at Hull until the death of her husband in 1907. She then went to Sioux City, to live with her daughter Mrs. Peterson with whom she has lived up to the time of her departure from this earth. She was received into the Fellowship of the Methodist church in 1898.

A similar obituary in the Alton Democrat (October 25) adds the information that John Cornforth was in Sherman's march to the sea.
