EDWIN J. "ED" SNELLER was born to John and Gertrude (Dykshorn) Sneller on the family farm near Sioux Center, Iowa on April 27, 1916. Ed received his education through the eighth grade at Welcome Township country school. As a young man Ed lived in La Holla, Calfornia for a short time while he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Co. On January 3, 1940 he was united in marriage to Alice Vermeer in her parent ‘s home. Following their marriage Ed and Alice were engaged in farming northeast of Sioux Center.
Ed was a man who enjoyed spending time with his family and taking drives to inspect the countryside. He was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center along with the Young Men ‘s Christian Association and Sioux County Farm Bureau. He served as a director for Welcome Township #7 rural school and his love for horseback riding got him involved with the Sioux Center Saddle Club. In his private time Ed was an avid reader. His family recalls Ed’s fond memories of camping and fishing excursions and Ed and Alice’s devotion to each other for nearly 63 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Alice Sneller of Sioux Center; sons and daughter-in-law, Kent and Mary "Becky" Sneller of Sioux Center; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dr. Bernard Mouw of Des Moines, IA; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Patty Sneller of Sioux Center. Ed is also survived by his 7 grandchildren: Jill (John) Mouw-Roehrick; Dr. David (Neila) Sneller; Kristine (Dr. Matthew) Sneller-Berst; Dr. Matthew (Mary) Mouw; Mark Sneller; John Sneller and Luke Sneller; 6 great grandchildren along with his brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Janice Sneiler of Boyden; sisters-in-law, Irene Sneller and LaVern Sneller both of Sioux Center and several nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents and two brothers, Martin and Damus Sneller.
