GERTRUDE VANDER VEGTE
Miss Gertrude Vander Vegte, age 86, of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, September i6, at 10:00 am, at the First Reformed Church Chapel in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 4:00 pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Gertrude was born on January 5, 1922, in Hull, the daughter of Dick and Grace (Schottert) Vander Vegte. She was raised at Hull.
In 1937, she moved to Orange City, where she did domestic work in the area. In 1968, she began employment at the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City, retiring in 2003.
More recently, she resided at the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City. Gert was a member of the First Reformed Church. She enjoyed bowling for 37 years.
Survivors include two sisters, Anthonette, and her husband, Dick Van Gelder, of Creston; and Joey Reinders, of Orange City; a brother and his wife, Dick and Nelvia Vander Vegte, of Peoria, Arizona; many loving nephews and nieces; and dear friends, Duane and Judy Pals and Joan Bonnema, all of Orange City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman, Ed, Henry, and Gerrit Vander Vegte; and two sisters, Henrietta Reekers and Minnie Langstraat.
