ROCK VALLEY (crowded out last week)--Jacob Van Voorst
Funeral services for Jacob Van Voorst, 58, were held Monday afternoon at the Netherlands Reformed church, with Rev. J. Van Zweden officiating. Mr. Van Voorst died suddenly Thursday afternoon [October 9, according to his wife's obit] at his home of a heart attack. He had been ill for some time.
Mr. Van Voorst was born June 16, 1905, in the Netherlands and came to this country at the age of 5. He grew up in this territory and married Jennie Maassen Nov. 21, 1930. A few years ago they moved into Rock Valley.
He is survived by the widow, Jennie; a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Van Beek of Rock Valley; three sons, Jacob, Jr. of Lester, John of Sioux Center and Raymond at home; his mother, Mrs. Jacob Van Voorst, sr. of Sioux Center, four sisters and seven brothers, John of Inwood; Henry of Hull; Gertrude, Mrs. Merrit Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids; Sam of Rock Valley; Harry, Marie, Mrs. H. Vande Stouwe and William all of Orange City; Maurice of Rock Valley; Henrietta, Mrs. Ben Vonk of Ireton; James of Sioux Center; and Jeanette, Mrs. Wm. Vanden Top of Viborg, S. Dak.
His father and one sister, Henrietta, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were his brothers, John, Sam, Harry, William, Maurice and James. Burial was in Valley View cemetery.
