Richard A. "Dick" Vermeer, 72, died suddenly as a result of a heart attach on Aug. 25,2003, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Colo.
Richard was born June 1, 1931, at Orange City, the son of Edward R. and (Gertrude (Oordt) Vermeer. When he was a small child, the family moved to Sioux Center where he graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1948.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Following the service, he graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars. He married Lois F. Hubers on Sept. 1, 1956, at Orange City. They lived in North Platte, Neb. where he was a general agent for Kansas City Life Insurance Co. and also owned a used auto rental business. They moved to Grand Island, Neb. in 1983 where Richard owned and managed a vending business known as "Mr. Pop."
Mr. Vermeer moved to Loveland in 1987 and retired from the vending business in Loveland. He moved to Greeley in 2002.
He served as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Loveland Mountain View Presbyterian Church and First United Presbyterian
Church in Greeley.
His friends came from all walks of life, and many considered him a mentor. He loved to make people laugh and enjoyed camping, fishing and being with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Lois F. Vermeer of Greeley; sons, Dan Vermeer and his wife Lily of Phoenix, Ariz. and Paul Vermeer and his wife Lisa of Gates, Ore.; daughters, Marianne Vermeer Johnson and her husband Robert Johnson of Richmond, Va. arid Susan Vermeer of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; brothers, Vernon Vermeer and his wife Terry of Ames and Ethan Vermeer and his wife Anna Beth of Orange City; and sisters, Carolyn Rohlf of Humboldt and Glenda Seely of Loveland.
Cremation was conducted. Memorial services were held on Friday, Aug. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Presbyterian
Church in Greeley. The Rev. Robert A. Johnson officiated.

Patricia Mae Ver Meer
March 17,1928—Nov. 6, 2004
BOYDEN—Patricia Mae Ver Meer, 76, Boyden, died Saturday, Nov. 6, at her residence.
Services were Tuesday, Nov. 9, at First Reformed Church in Boyden.
Burial was at the Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Boyden.
Patricia Ver Meer, daughter of George W. and Matilda E. (Schnieder) Eich, was born March 17, 1928, in Sheldon. She received her education in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School. She married Richard Van Diepen on March 7, 1947, and they made their home in Boyden. She worked at Arlo’s Lunch and in the Bowling Alley Cafe in Boyden. She married
Gerrit J.Ver Meer on March 27,1970, in Sheldon. They made their home in Boyden. She worked at Pamida in Sheldon until her retirement in 1990. Mr. Ver Meer died Oct. 27, 1999, in Sioux Falls, SD. She continued to live at home.
She was a member of First Reformed Church in Boyden. She enjoyed reading, cross-stitching and sewing.
Survivors include seven children, Ray and Kathy Van Diepen, of Boyden; Joyce and Harold Obbink of Boyden, Gertrude Vander Hamm of Ireton, Jim and Elaine Ver Meer of Boyden, Ken and Dorothy Ver Meer of Hull, Harold and Nilda Ver Meer of Charles City, and Marilyn and Paul Hoekema of Grand Rapids, MI; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Faye Ramos of Anaheim Hills, CA, and Cynthia and Chuck Carr of Norco, CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerrit J. Ver Meer; three grandchildren, Lisa, Lori and Andy; and four sisters, Iona Eich, Dorothy Tilley, Darlene McNeil and Josephine Schneider.
