JENNIE VERMEER
Mrs. Jennie Vermeer, age 103, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2007, at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, September 18, at 1:30pm, at the Redeemer United Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Ralph Pontier will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation with the family will be the hour before the service on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Jennie was born on April 20, 1904, at Orange City, the daughter of Melle and Ida (Granstra) De Jong. She was raised at Orange City.
On January 20, 1927, she married John H. Vermeer at Orange City. For many years, they owned and operated Vermeer Grocery in Orange City. John passed away on May 20, 1987, in Sioux City.
In May of 1993, Jennie became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In October of 2004, she transferred to the Heritage House.
Mrs. Vermeer was a member of the Redeemer United Reformed Church. She was an excellent seamstress, did all kinds of handwork, and enjoyed crafts.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Gesink and Bertha Van Klompenburg; and a brother, Robert M. De Jong.
