Called By Death Henry Van Voorst

Mr. Henry Van Voorst passed away very unexpectedly at the Oelrich hospital last Thursday forenoon Feb. 11, 1943 at the age of 46 years. He entered the hospital just a week before when he fell and received a broken hip but was doing well when he suffered a heart attack brought on by the formation of a blood clot which caused his very sudden death.

Left to mourn his departure are the widow and nine children, namely: Minnie, Mrs. Wm. Van Bockhove; Pvt. John Van Voorst who is with the U.S. Army at Alexandria, La.; Gertrude, Richard, Hattie, Jacob, Gerrit, Marie and Priscilla and one grandchild. Also one brother, Richard of Sioux Center, and three sisters, Mrs. Gerrit Meyers of Sioux Center, Mrs. Eigbert Zomermaand of Rock Valley and Mrs. Henry Dekker of Ireton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerrit and Bert Van Voorst.

Funeral services were held for him on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1943 at 12 o'clock at the home and at two o'clock at the Old Dutch Reformed Church with Mr. C. Schelling officiating. Burial was made at the local cemetery and acting as pallbearers were Gerrit Meyer Jr., Gerrit Vander Hoef, Arthur Vander Hoef, Wm. Van Voorst, John B. Van Voorst and Richard B. Van Voorst.

Mr. Van Voorst was born near Sioux Center on May 15, 1897, and lived in [this community all of his life, spend]ing the last seven years on the farm 6 miles west of town. In 1917 he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Van der Hoef. One of their daughters, Hattie, was unable to attend funeral services being at the Oelrich hospital following an appendix operation of last Monday. Pvt. John Van Voorst who has been in the service since last May arrived home on Saturday morning on a twelve day emergency furlough.

Misfortunes Strike Van Voorst Family

The Henry Van Voorst family, farmers living west of town, are having their share of sickness and accidents this winter. Last Thursday morning while Mr. Van Voorst was attempting to go outside he slipped and fell receiving a broken hip. He was taken to the Oelrich hospital where the bone was put in place and where he will be cared for. On Monday morning their daughter Hattie became ill and she was operated on for appendicitis that day. Mrs. Van Voorst has been confined to her bed for several weeks due to a siege of the flu and a blood ailment and previous to his fall Mr. Van Voorst was also ill with the flu for several weeks.
