John Statema,55,of Hawarden passed away in the St. Lukes Medical Center in Sioux City on Friday, Jan. 26, Funeral service were held on Monday Jan. 29, at the Christian Refirmed Church in Hawarden with Rev. Arthur Stienstra officicating. The burial services were held at the Hull, Iowa Cemetery.

Statema was born on April 5, 1917 near Ireton. He married Gertrude Sneller on April 21, 1943. She preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1962. On Dec 26, 1968 he married Marilyn Haage at Hawarden.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; one son James of George,Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Carol) Bower of Currie, Minn.; and Mary Ann of Hawarden; his mother, Mrs. Anna Statema of Orange City; four brothers Clarence of Hawarden; Frank of Zeeland, Mich.; and Arthur and Peter of Ireton; five sisters; Mrs. Henry (Anna) Zomermaand of Maurice; Mrs. James(Betty) Sikma of Hull; Mrs. Otto (Madeline) Huizenga of Orange City; Mrs. William (Geneva) Burggraaf of Rock Valley and Mrs. Juluis (Priscilla)De Jong of Rock Valley and one granddaughter
