Greta Van Voorst
Feb. 23, 1926-Oct. 22, 2002

Greta Van Voorst, 76, Sioux Center, died Tuesday, Oct. 22. Services were Friday, Oct. 25, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Jan Neels, pastor of Heritage Reformed Church in Hull, officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Greta Van Voorst, daughter of Tunis and Libbie (Van Den Brink) Van Der Weide, was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Kanawha. She married James Van Voorst on Jan. 11, 1946, in Sioux Center. They farmed in the Sioux Center and Hull area. They were blessed with 10 children. She also felt especially blessed by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years she loved to crochet a baby blanket for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After her children were raised, she did housekeeping for others for many years. She also lovingly looked after her husband of 56 years. They recently moved from their own home to Crown Pointe in Sioux Center. She was a member of Heritage Reformed Church in Hull.

Survivors include her husband, James Van Voorst of Sioux Center; three daughters, Lois and Alvin Zomer of Sioux Center, Shirley and Adrie "Dutch" Born of Sioux Center, and Lavonne and Harvey Spaans of Hull; five sons, Roger and Carol Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Arlin Van Voorst and special friend, Vicky Coy, of Adrian, MO, Doug and Diane Van Voorst of Marionville, MO, Tom and Annette Van Voorst of Maurice, and Kevin and Angie Van Voorst of Newport, MN; two daughters-in-law, Audrey and Perry Raman of Hull, and Shirley Van Voorst of Rock Valley; 34 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Esther Tromp of Pella.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Alvin Van Voorst and Timothy Van Voorst; an infant son, James Van Voorst Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Van Voorst; a grandson-in-law, Clifford Vanden Berg; and a brother, William Van Der Weide.

Memorials may be directed to CHEARS Hospice and Home Health in Sioux Center or Heritage Reformed Christian School in Hull.
