Mr. Wilbert J. (Bill) Vermeer passed away Wednesday evening at his home at the age of seventy-eight years. He was born on August 1, 1915 to Jacob E. and Henrietta (Nyman) Vermeer at Sioux Center, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Harriet Schimmel on January 4, 1941, at Sioux Center. He farmed his entire life in the Sioux Center area. He was a lifetime member of the First Reformed Church and served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and catechism teacher. He also served on the Christian School board.
The survivors include his wife and the following children: Diane, Mrs. Robert Sand bulte, of Escondido, California; Judy, Mrs. Curtis Punt, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; Beverly, Mrs. Jan Schuiteman, of Orange City, Iowa; Jerry and his wife, Sharon, of Maurice, Iowa; and Wade and his wife, Barb, of Sioux Center, Iowa. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters: Harriet, Mrs. John Vander Schaaf; Johanna, Mrs. Harvey Vermeer; Marvin and Arnold Vermeer; all of Sioux Center, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Bert and Edwin J. Vermeer.
