SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Irwin R. Vermeer, 76, of Sioux Center died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Sioux Center Community Hospital. Memorial services will be at 10:30a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Vermeer was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Sioux Center, the son of Ed and Alida (Borgman) Vermeer.
He began farming at age 16, and in 1984 received the Century Farm award.
He married Ellen Walraven on Aug. 24, 1948, in Sioux Center. The couple entered the Regency in Sioux Center in November 1996.
He was a member of First Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon and elder and sang in the choir. He was a former Sioux County Soil Conservation commissioner. He enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Evan and Dawn of Sioux Center and Al and Ruth of Rock Valley, Iowa; four daughters and their husbands, Karen and Leon Schuiteman and Leanne and James Mouw, all of Sioux Center, Ruth and Arlan Moss of Hull, Iowa, and Merilee and Clark Pennings of Orange City, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Catherine, Eric and Elizabeth Vermeer, Matthew and Abby Schuiteman, Kent, Andrea and Daniel Mouw, Adam, Craig and JoElyn Moss, Meredith and Tyler Pennings and Blake, Sara and Jana Vermeer; a great-grandchild; seven sisters, Edna and her husband, Gersham Van Roekel, of Hull, Aldine Van Roekel of Orange City, Hester Black of Coon Rapids, Minn., Mildred Schutt of Sioux Center, Cynthia and her husband, Gene Kaskey, of Aurelia, Iowa, Elnor and her husband, Dan Niffenegger, of Lexington, Ky., and Ruth Bonnema of Orange City; and three brothers and their wives, Loyd and Helen of Sioux Center, Wallace and JoAnne of Orange City and Wayne and Shirley of Clearwater, Fla.
