ORANGE CITY—Evelyn "Effie" Ver Meer, 92, Orange City formerly of Sheldon, died Thursday, Nov. 9, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City
Services were Saturday, Nov. 11, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, with the Rev. Kevin Muyskens officiating.
Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Evelyn Ver Meer, daughter of Ryn and Evelyn (Eppinga) Fylstra was born July23, 1914, in Middleburg. She received her education in country schools in Sioux County.
She married William Ver Meer on Feb. 26, 1937, in Hull. They farmed for many years in the Boyden area. They retired from farming and moved into Sheldon in 1975. Mr. Ver Meer died March 3, 1988, in Sheldon. She remained in the family home in Sheldon, and moved to Orange City in 2002. She first lived at Heritage House Nursing Home and later moved to Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, where she resided until February 2006, when she moved back to Heritage House. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Survivors include a sister, Rena (Fylstra) De Boer of Milaca, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ver Meer; two sisters, Katie Fylstra and Ann Kruizenga; and two brothers, Sam Fylstra and Orrie Fylstra.
