Gertrude Vermeer, age 89 of Sioux Center, died Thursday, July 25, 1996, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home at Hudson, South Dakota.
Gertrude A.M. (Oordt) Vermeer, the daughter of Andrew and Katherine (Toering) Oordt, was born at Hospers, Iowa, on May 16, 1907. She lived her youth in Hospers and Orange City and Gertrude received her education at the Christian School in Hospers.
She was united in marriage to Edward R. Vermeer at Sioux Center, Iowa, on December 23, 1930. Their married lifetime has been spent in the Sioux Center area. The past year, Gertrude has resided at the Colonial Manor of Hudson.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church, the Mary Circle of the First Reformed Church, and Farm Bureau Women. She loved cooking for her family and for family
gatherings. Gertrude loved gardening, houseplants, and had a special love for animals, especially cats.
She is survived by her husband, Edward, of Sioux Center; her children: Richard and Lois Vermeer and Glenda and Robert Seely, all of Loveland, Colorado, Vernon and Teresa Vermeer of Ames, Iowa, Carolyn Rohif of Humboldt, Iowa, and Ethan and Anna Beth Vermeer of Orange City, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: Robert and Marianne Johnson and Nathan, Dan and Lilly Vermeer and Brandon, Paul and Lisa Vermeer, Brittney and Eric, Susan Vermeer, Robert and Janet Larson, Celeste and Ray, Rick and JoAnn Hansen and Jack, Jennifer Vermeer and Terry Millard, Laura Vermeer, Ross and Percy Vermeer, Cary and Lynn Wauter, Troy Vermeer, Kit and Lisa Seely.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Maggie UittenBogaard, Anna Harkema, and brother: Andrew, Mince, and Jacob Oordt.
