Jacob Groot. 57, died from a heart attack, Sunday, Oct. 2, at 4 :15 p. In. at the home of his son, Rev. Mr. Clarence Groot at Middleburg. Mr. Groot had attended the morning services but did not feel well that afternoon. At about four o'clock in the afternoon he had a cup of coffee, retired to his bedroom and dropped down dead.
He was born at Andyk, North Holland, The Netherlands. At the age of four years he came
with his parents to America.
Shortly after their arrival they settled in the Orange City vicinity.
Mr. De Groot lived on the farm until 1923 when he moved to Grand Rapids, Mich. where his
son. Clarence, attended Calvin Seminary. In 1927 the family came back to Orange City. His wife died on March. 23, 1938. He is survived by one son, Rev. Mr. Clarence Groot and five daughters Mrs. Jake Mantel; Mrs. Chris Aalberts, Mrs. Wm. Huisman. Mrs. Mary Haarsma and Mrs. Arie Jonker. Of the nine brothers and sisters in the Groot
famlly four have died within the last two and one half years.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Christian Reformed church with
Dr. R. Bronkema officiating assisted by Dr: R. L. Haan of Hull and Rev. Mr. B. Van Zomeren of
Sanborn. Interment was made in the Orange City cemetery.
