Obituary: Inwood, IA: Donald Van Geest, 87, of Inwood, IA, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Fellowship Village, Inwood. Funeral Service 10 am Saturday at Porter Funeral Home Rock Valley. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Pastor Rob Horstman officiating. Visitation will be Friday with the family present 6- 8 pm and Masonic Service 7 pm at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
Don was born November 17, 1924 at the Hudson, SD Hospital, son of John and Anna (Bloem) Van Geest. After graduating the 8th grade, he helped on the family farm. Don married Delma Kraayenhof on August 5, 1949 at Steen, MN. They farmed NW of Rock Valley before Don partnered in an implement shop at Inwood. They lived at Hull, IA 2 years before moving to Inwood where Don worked for Lyon County Secondary Road Department (1961-1987) and drove truck part-time for Souvignier Trucking of Canton. They retired to Okoboji, IA (where Don did deliveries for Lewis Drug) until returning to Inwood in 2006 and then to Fellowship Village December 28, 2010. Delma passed away on October 17, 2011. Don was a member of Jeptha Lodge #121 of Hudson, SD, El Riad Shrine of Sioux Falls, SD, and Abu Bekr Shrine of Sioux City, IA
Surviving relatives include his son, Dan (Lorraine) Van Geest and their children, Amy and Chad Van Geest all of Inwood; daughter, Deb (Dale) Kooima of Colman, SD and their daughter, Renea (Barry) Rozeboom and their son, Ryland all of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Frances Terpstra of Sibley, IA.
