Christine Vermeer
Christine Vermeer, 88, of Sioux Center died Thursday, May 13, at Sioux Center Community Hospital.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Memoiy Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Vermeer was born July 18, 1910, in Sioux Center to Christian and Johanna (Mouw) Van Roekel. When she was eight years old, her father died and with her mother and brother she came to live in Sioux Center with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Berend Mouw. After graduating from high school, she taught school for six years. She married Benjamin Vermeer September 3, 1935, in Sioux Center. He was called to serve his country and died in military service in 1944. After her son, Carl, left home for college she was a librarian at the Sioux Center Public Library
15 years.
She was a member of Central Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school, catechism, sang in the choir and was a member of the women’s circle for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was den mother for Carl’s cub scout pack.
Survivors include one son, Carl and his wife Wilma of Alexandria, Minnesota; two granddaughters, Christi and Alan Nelson and their children, Jeff, Ryan and Abby of Alexandria, and Barbara and Gregory Weiss and their children, Matthew, Michael and Laura of Rochester, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Dr. Byron Van Roekel; and a granddaughter, Carla Vermeer.
