Cora Vermeer
Cora Vermeer, 99, of Rock Valley died Tuesday, December 18, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.
Mrs. Vermeer was born July 19, 1902, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Cornelius and Jacoba (Hoeve) Van Beck. After graduating from Sioux Center Public High School and attending the University of Iowa, she taught country school and later third grade at Sioux Center. She married G. G. "Speed" Vermeer on September 17, 1929, in Sioux Center. They lived in Sioux Center. until 1934, when the Sioux Center State Bank moved its charter to Rock Valley, where her husband later was president of Valley State Bank. He died October 5, 1971. She moved to Valley Manor July 13, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Darlene and Harold Westra of Rock Valley; two grandchildren and their spouses; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Gilbert and Andrew Van Beek; infant twin siblings, Andrew and Grace; and sisters, Gertrude Vande Brake, Grace Mouw, Jean Buffington and Coba Saisbury.
