Mrs. Katherine De Boer ~
Funeral services were held at the Christian Reformed Church at Hospers Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Katherine De Boer, 64, resident of Hospers vicinity since 1942, who died at the Community Memorial hospital in Sheldon Saturday.
Services were conducted by the Rev. C. R. Veenstra and burial was made in the Hospers cemetery. Vander Ploeg’s Funeral home of Sioux Center was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. De Boer, nee Katherine Dykstra, was born in The Netherlands March 22, 1893, and immigrated to America in 1906 at the age of 13. She lived for a number of years at Grand Rapids, Mich, where she was married April 26, 1923, to Henry De Boer. The couple moved to a farm near Archer where they resided until 1930, when they moved to Sheldon. Twelve years later, in 1942, they moved to a farm near Hospers and resided there until moving in to Hospers in 1956.
The De Boers acted as mother and father of the four Vandet Plaats children: John of Sheldon, Harold at home, Gerrit of Primghar and Myrna De Boer at home. Other survivors include five grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Nick Andree of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Alice Symbranda of Muskegon, Mich., and Mrs. Sam Polloma of Detroit; two brothers, Rev. Sam A. Dykstra of Lake Worth, Fla., and the Rev. Harry A. Dykstra of Redlands, Cal. One sister, Mrs. Ray Bruggink, preceded her in death.
Pall bearers were John Vander Plaats, Harold Vander Plaats, Gernt Vander Plaats, Wm. Hofmeyer, Joe Boender, and Frank De Jong.
