Another Pioneer dies.
On Christmas night Phil Buckley, one of Sioux County's Pioneer farmers Passed to the great beyond at his home one mile northwest of Perkins. Mr. Buckley had been feeling in excellent health all day and had enjoyed as usual the annual Christmas dinner. In the evening after assisting in doing up the chores he came into the house and complained of a dizziness. He was laid upon his bed and almost immediately was attached with a violent spasm of vomiting. His son Tom went to this bedside and seeing the condition of his father, immediately hurried to town after a doctor. The son was gone scarcely an hour, when he returned with Dr. Owens, only to find that his father had passed away. Mr. Buckley was between 72 and 73 years of age. He had always been a robust and hard working man. For Years he has lived a quiet life, seeming to enjoy the quiet of home on the farm. He was seldom seen in town and when he did come it was through necessity rather than to enjoy a chat with old friends. He came to Sioux County about 29 years ago and settled on a homestead on Sec. 30, Lincoln Township where he live and died. He was a son of the Emerald Isle (Ireland) and was a typical Irishman. He loved his native land, but his affection for his adopted country grew stronger and stronger as the years came and went. He leaves a wife and a family of grown up children to mourn his departure. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery on Wednesday, the funeral services beying conducted in the chapel by Rev. Father J. Phelan, the Parish priest.
(In the 1880 census of Lincoln Tsp, Sioux County IA, Philip Buckley was 48 years , a farmer, born in Ireland, his wife was Mary age 46 born in Ireland, children were Martin age 17 born in WI, Thomas age 15 born in WI and Anna born in WI. From the 1925 census of Sioux county searching under Martin Buckley, found that his mother was listed as Mary Meldoney.)
