Mrs. Guy Gleysteen Dies Suddenly At Sheldon Home

Alton relatives were shocked Thursday morning by news of the death of Mrs. Clara Gleysteen, long an Alton resident, who passed on at the Sheldon Holland Home in the early hours of that morning, apparently from a heart attack. She had not been in normal health for some years. She was 75 years of age.

Clara Van Boven was born at Cleveland, Ohio, one of the twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James Van Boven, pioneer settlers of the Newkirk vicinity, where she lived as a girl. She was married about fifty years ago to Guy Gleysteen of Alton and the couple resided most of their married life in Alton. They adopted two small children, sister and brother, and reared them as their own. The daughter is Mrs. Wm. Ekelman and the son Arthur Gleysteen, both of Yakima, Wash. She is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Springman of Detroit, Mich. Her twin sister, Mrs. Roelof Van Zyl of Sheldon passed on several years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Gleysteen lived a short time at Livermore, but returned to Alton where they resided until about ten years ago, Then they sold their home and moved to Yakima, Washington. Two years later they returned to Iowa and became residents of the Holland Home at Sheldon. Mr. Gleysteen died four years ago while visiting in Alton with Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer.

Both were closely associated with the church and social life of the town, and Mrs. Gleysteen has been a frequent visitor here during her residence in Sheldon and was always a welcome guest in the homes of her friends here.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Home in Sheldon, with Rev. Vis in charge, and interment was in Nassau township cemetery at Alton, with Rev. Rudd officiating. Those who drove to Sheldon for the services were Mrs. D. J. Gleysteen and Rodney Gleysteen, Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Van Zyl, Guy Van Zyl, Mrs. Jeannette Teeslink, Mrs. W. B. Hyink, Mrs. A. Van Nimwegen, all of Alton, Mr. and Mrs. Henry De Haan of Orange City, James Van Zyl of Sanborn.
