Lance Faber
May 17, 1964----- November 12, 2011
Lance Faber, 47, of Escondido, California
died Friday, November 12, 2011. Lance is the husband of Deanna Faber and son of Howard and Garneth Faber all of Escondido, California. A graveside committal service will be held on Wednesday, November 23rd at 10AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.
Lance William Faber was born in Sioux Center, Iowa to Howard and Garneth Faber on May 17, 1964. When he was given his name, which rhymes with that of his grandfather Hans Faber, little did they realize that Lance would also be given his stature: 6 foot, 8 inches. As he grew it became clear that he would also share the quiet faith and persevering work ethic of his other grandfather, William Sybesma. Lance is one of four boys: brother to Lynn, Chad, and Nathan. Even though Lance moved with his family to Escondido at the age of three, he ever cherished his Iowa roots. Therefore, several years ago, Lance decided that his body should be laid to rest in Sioux Center. Lance enjoyed the blessing of a Christian education and maintained a love for Calvin Christian School. An all-around athlete and lover of sports, he participated in every church league and assisted in coaching boys' basketball at Calvin. One athlete he mentored described Lance as "an example for all of us, both in his character and Christian testimony." Lance loved the church of Jesus Christ. He faithfully served over many years as usher and at the sound board. He loved the Word of God; and discussing Sunday sermons was a weekly delight. Lance's trust in God was made poignant in an email to his cousin Sheri after being diagnosed with cancer: "God's plan is perfect... always." Lance is beloved by his many nieces, nephews and younger cousins. His exuberant playfulness, quick wit and verbal banter made him a joy to be around. They delighted in this gentle giant who loved to play "tiger" and tumble with them on the floor. Lance was a man of "vintage" taste - preferring old cars to new. How he enjoyed getting his hands dirty when polishing and keeping them up. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed planning, creating, and maintaining the landscape of his own home and of those he loved. Lance married Deanna Taylor on November 5, 2005. They shared a passion for life and for travel; together traveling the world, experiencing new places and people, and enjoying one another's company. As much as Lance enjoyed seeing the world, he also enjoyed seeing his community. How grateful he was to be free of a desk and to take to the highways and byways as a concrete mixer driver. The Lord took Lance home on November 12, 2011 after seven months of fighting cancer. Mercifully, he was surrounded by those he loved when he passed peacefully from this trial into glory.
