Hazel De Boer, 88, of Hull died Sunday, October 11, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services were Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at American Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Steve Bierly officiating. Burial was at Hope Cemetery in Hull.
Mrs. De Boer was born October 15, 1909, in Dunning, Michigan, the daughter of John Bliss and Ruth Mildred (Weaver) Bolks. At the age of 7, she moved to the Hull area with her family. As a teenager, she helped raise her brothers and sisters. She married Donald Gustav De Boer in Hull June 4, 1930. They made their home in the Hull area. She was employed by the O.E.O., assisted her husband in the operation of their cream route, managed a bowling alley and worked in the laundry of Pleasant Acres Care Center. She retired at the age of 79. He died June 28, 1987, in Rock Valley. She resided In the Centennial Apartments in Hull for 25 years. For the past two years, she has lived in area nursing homes. She has been at Pleasant Acres since last January.
She was an active member of American Reformed Church, where she participated in the Guild and Reformed Church Women’s Ministries. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards.
Survivors include her three daughters and their husbands, Vivian and Jim Strayer of Sanborn, Sharon and Marion J. "Shorty" Hubers of San Diego, California, and Kathy and Michael Dudding of Denison; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Bolks of Hull and Alfred Bolks of Sioux Center; and three sisters, Esther Kooiker of Bellflower, California, Irma Derr of Brea, California, and LaVonne Kroese of Hull.
