Edward De Boer
Mr. Edward De Boer, age 79, Orange City, passed away Thursday, March 28 at St. Luke Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.
He was born Oct. 13, 1905, near Alton, the youngest of 17 children born to Dowie De Boer and Augusta Kadolph De Boer. Upon reaching adulthood he became a teacher at Lynn Independent School.
On Jan. 1, 1931, he married Alice Nettinga at Hull. They farmed near Newkirk for forty years, retiring to Orange City on March 1, 1971.
Mr. De Boer was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Orange City. He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Mid America Dairymen and a former member of the Farm Bureau and the Orange City Lions Club. Mr. De Boer was a strong supporter of th Orange City community, especially Tulip Time promotions. He was also an active member of the Republican party.
He was preceded in death by his son, David, in June of 1965 and thirteen brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Chris (Cornelia) Van Hal, of Valley City, N.D.; Mrs.
Rodney (Alma) Langstraat of Hospers; Mrs. Marjorie De Young of Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Norbert
(Vera) Bradley of Lenox; eight grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Minnie) Scholten of Orange City, Mrs. Jake (Betha) Zwagerman of Hospers and. Mrs. Henry (Elvina) Kaminga of Newport, Ore.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 1, at the. Trinity Reformed Church with the Rev. Donald R. Lenderink officiating. Interment followed at the Newkirk Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
