Dies at Age 73 After Long Illness
Mrs. J. A. Patrick, 79, a long time resident of Hawarden and vicinity, died Sunday after a long illness.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. B. Roy Brown officiating. Mrs. P. W. Peters was at the organ and accompanied John Tilgner when he sang two of Mrs. Patrick's favorite hymns, The Old Rugged Cross and In the Garden. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral service.
Mrs. Patrick many years was an active member in the various organizations of the Methodist church. She took a particular interest in the Sunday school and served as superintendent of this department 25 years. She was also a member of the Rebecca lodge In 1943 Mr. and Mrs. Patrick observed their golden wedding at open house in their home.
Ima Hastings, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. Hastings,, was born March 30, 1872, at Independence, Iowa. She grew up and attended school near Browntown, Wis. On February 22, 1893, she was married to John A. Patrick and to this union were born three children.
For many years she lived on a farm but later came to Hawarden. to live.
She is survived by two children, Russell of Hawarden, and Mrs. Helen Langdon of Hammond, Ind., and six grandchildren. Her husband died August 19. 1946, and a son Ralph also preceded her in death. She was the last member of a family of seven children.
