Translated goes something like this:
About 10 o’clock Friday, November 9th, Mr.. Jacob Versteeg deceased at the age of about 89 years. The deceased saw the light of September 27, 1834 Vuren Netherland. At age 18 he came with his parents, four brothers and two sisters to America .. They get to St. Louis where in 1855 moved to Pella IA. Mr. Versteeg was the last of the many brothers and sisters totaling 11.
Then in March 1861, he married Henrietta Wigny. him died over 1 1 / 2 years ago after a really happy 61 more years went by. This marriage blessed with their five young A few children deprived by death. The two daughters are still alive, Mrs.. J. Calseek and Miss Jacoba ‘Coba” Versteeg .
In 1871 he moved to Orange City and settled a farm six miles north of town, later they were city people.

(Jacob was born 27 Sep 1834 Vuren Geld. Neth. to Jacob VerSteeg 179801877 and Gijsje Tromp 1801-1884 Some of their children, siblings of Jacob were Jantje 1819, Johanna 1821, Klazentje 1823, Kornelia 1825, Areke 1827, Nicholas 1828, Elizabeth 1833, Jacob 1834, Jan arien Versteeg 1837, Gysbert 1840 and Jannigje 1843. It is believe that Jacob and Henriette Wigny had five children, known are Anna Melvina Versteeg Mrs. Jerome Calsbeek, and Miss Coba Versteeg.
In the 1880 census of Holland Tsp Sioux County he was 44, Harriett was 42, Anna Maria was 17 Jacoba Nellie was 6 mo. And adopted son Isaac VerSteeg was 6. )
