From the de Volksvriend Orange City in Dutch; translation something like this:
Wednesday morning, around 8 o’clock, 19 April is Mrs.. Jacob Versteeg, born Henrietta Maria Wignij, deceased at the advanced age of nearly 85 years. In 1837 she was Ned erland born at Dordrecht. her age was 10yrs, 30 May 1847, she with her parents and a brother left the Netherlands, with the ship Nagasaki. On Aug. 25 they arrived in Baltimore Maryland and from thence to Pella, IA, where she followed her father and her mother now lost by death. She was in Pella, IA until 1871, when she came to Orange City. I n 1861 she was in with married to Jacob Versteeg, by Dr.. H. P. Scholte.
This marriage was blessed with five daughters, three already have gone before her, and two more are alive, Mrs. Jerome Calsbeek and Coba Versteeg. In March it was 61 years that she was married. . Her strength rapidly declined. this experience a deeply distressed her husband, aged about 88, and two daughters and a son-son in law. Besides she leaves six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. and half sister, Mrs.. Mulder in Grand Rapids, MI. The funeral service had place Friday at home by Elder F. De Haan, who spoke comforting words of Ps. 37. and 2 hours in the time by Rev.. J. Emgelsman, on Job 19, 25. The mourning were convinced of our sincere condolences, and particularly the aged husband of the beloved departed
(The Wigny family came over on the ship Nagasaki April 11, 1847 bound for Baltimore. Abroad were A. Wigny, Mrs. A. Wigny, Mietje and Jetje (Henrietta) . This family is believed to be that of Pierre Frederic Auguste Wijnij b. 1810 in Luik Zuid Holland married 2 May 1832 at Dordrecht Zuid Holland to Maria De Boo age 29 born at Dordrecht. She must have died before he set sail for America and he married an Anna Hettinger as recorded in the 1850 Lake Prairie, Marion County IA census. Then referred to as August Wigny age 40 had one daughter Henriette M. age 13. It is not clear if Maria or Anna was the mother of Henrietta. In the 1860 census August P. F. Wigny was 50 b. 1810 Belguim? Anna was 47, Henrietta M. was 22, and Reindina was 9. In the 1870 census Pierre F. A. Wigny b. 1810 was 60 years born Netherlands wife Anna 53, daughter Reindina 19 years.
