The death of John Bohnenkamp, one of the oldest residents of the county, occurred at the home of his son, Theo. Bohnenkamp, near Remsen last Saturday morniog. Mr, Bohnenkamp was eighty-five years of age at the time of his death and was a native of Germany, He came to this country about fifty years ago and settled in New York state, (was in Dubuque IA 1870-1880 census) coming to Sioux county in 1884. Only one son, Theodore, and a number of grandchildren survive him, the rest of the members of his family having
passed before him "to that bourne from whence no traveler returneth,"
The funeral was held from St, Mary's church in this city last Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Father Brune, and was very largely attended.
Interment in St. Mary's cemetery.

John was born June 1813 and died Sep 24, 1898 at his son Theodore near Remsen, he was buried in St. Mary's Alton. He had two sons - Herman 1850-Apr 17, 1895, his wife was Jetta Henrietta Later Mrs. Lee Grant, he died April 17, 1895 he is buried in St. Mary's at Alton. The other son was Theodore living near Remsen at the time of his father's death. In 1870 census of Liberty Dubuque IA John was 57 born Germany his wife was Catharine age 68, Herman was living with them at the time age 21. In 1880 same place John was a widower, so his wife died at Dubuque between 1870-1880. He then came to Sioux county in about 1884. According to an ancestry.com report John Wilhelm Bohnenkamp was born 10 Jul 1813 in Berghausen Amberg-Sulzbach, Bayen Germany married to Catherine Muller 1809- before 1880.
