Peter W. De Jong, 90, of Jacksonville, Tex. died Oct. 6, 1997 in a Jacksonville nursing home. Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997 at the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel of Jacksonville. Rev. Carl Rogers officiated.
Peter was born Dec. 19, 1906 in Orange City, the son of William P. and Tillie (Menning) De Jong. He lived in Houston, Tex. from 1944-1970 and Inverness, Fla. from 1970-1989. He had lived in Jacksonville since 1989.
Mr. De Jong was a retired contractor and member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville.
Survivors, include his wife Cora of Jacksonville, a daughter, Helen Flemming of Houston, Tex.; a stepdaughter, Bea Johnson of Jacksonville; four brothers, William De Jong of Storm Lake, Raymond De Jong of Alton, Kenneth De Jong and Lloyd De Jong, both of Orange City; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother Howard De Jong, Ralph De Jong and sister, Anna Niewendorp.
