Orville De Jong November 17, 1907—September 1996
Orville Gerrit De Jong, 88, of Orange City died Wednesday, September 4, 1996 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City.
Services were Saturday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Rev. Paul E. Baker officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.
De Jong was born on November 17, 1907, in Orange City, the son of Henry Koenrad and Elizabeth (Van Horssen) De Jong. He was raised in 0range City.
On September 10, 1930, he married Elizabeth Mouw at Sioux City couple farmed at Orange City until 1954 when they moved into town. He then purchased and operated Orange Motor Co. Mrs. De Jong died July 9, 1985. In Orange City. On May 8, 1987,
he married Mildred Irene Black Herwynen at Hawarden. They their home in Orange City. He retired in 1991. She died February 20, 1995, in Sioux City. In the fall of 1995 he became a resident of Heritage Hourse.
De Jong was a member of Christian Reformed Church, Orange City Lions Club and the City Chamber of Comrnerce . He had served on the Tulip Festival Committees and was honored as a parade marshall. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Hallard and Shirley De Jong and Jay and Gloria De Jong of Orange City; four grandchildren, Bradley De Jong, Sherry De Jong & Sheila Cowles and Brian De Jong ; four great-grandchildren, a step-son and his wife, David and Sarah Herwynen of Sioux City; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Jo Wendell Kruse of Ireton and and Tom Eilers of Germany; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Cynthia De Jong of Jenison, Mich. and Pearle and her husband, Wayne Venard of Hawarden,
He was also preceded in death by brother Milo De Jong.
