Marion P. DeJong, 67, of Woodville, Wis. died Saturday, March 6, 2004.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin. Rev. Leon Draayer and Rev. Harlan De Jong officiated. Burial was at Baldwin Cemetery under the direction of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home.
Marion was born Nov. 19, 1936, at Orange City, the son of Peter S, and Tracy DeJong. He attended Orange City Christian School prior to attending Western Christian High School in Hull. He was involved in the family trucking business in Iowa until the age of 20. He then moved to Baldwin, Wis. and married Susan Zevenbergen on Oct. 11, 1957.
Marion and Sue operated a family farm for many years. His other occupations included working at the Baldwin Hospital, at Boldt and Gregerson Hardware Store and as a school bus driver, realtor, carpenter, apartment manager and most recently as a self-employed "Mr. Fix It." He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, visiting shut-ins and tinkering with wood.
Mr. DeJong served on the Baldwin Christian School Board, the Woodville Village Board and as a lay minister. He was very involved at the First Reformed Church as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and Bible study group leader for many years.
Survivors include his wife Susan; two sons, David DeJong of Baldwin, Wis. and Robert and his wife Judy DeJong of Alma Center; two daughters, Sheryl and her husband Gerard Buechter of Baldwin and Maria and her husband Michael Harer of Appleton; sisters, Rena Kloosterman of Michigan, Arlene and her husband Howard Menninga of Nevada, and Rose and her husband Norm TeGrotenhuis of Iowa; brothers, Peter DeJong and his wife Lois, Sam DeJong, Ray DeJong and his wife Arlene, twin brother Marvin DeJong and his wife Delores and Wilbur DeJong and his wife Joann; and a sister-in-law, Pris and her husband Otto Huizenga; 17 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Brynn Kay Heebink; many nephews, nieces and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Julius DeJong; a sister-in-law, Nellie DeJong; and a brother-in-law, Hans Kloosterman.
