Marcus, Iowa – Carol L. Alesch, 73, of Marcus, Iowa passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. The Very Reverend Armand Bertrand will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Holy Name Catholic Church. A Rosary Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. The Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus, Iowa is assisting Carol’s family with funeral arrangements.
Carol Lee (Collins) Alesch was born January 12, 1938 in Ireton, Iowa to Harry and Emma (Reed) Collins. She attended school in Ireton, Iowa graduating in 1955. She attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, Iowa, graduating in 1957. She taught school in Archer, Iowa and Marcus, Iowa.
On July 26, 1961 she married Donald Alesch at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. They lived on a farm west of Marcus. She was a member of Holy Name Church where she was a member of St. Ann's Guild and also taught CCD for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Estephan of Katy, Texas, Sally Oltmanns of Windom, Minnesota; four sons, Joe Alesch and his wife Rae Anne of Marcus, Pat Alesch of Marcus, Mike Alesch and his wife Brenda of Melvin, Iowa, and Marty Alesch and his good friend Jill Plagman of Marcus; grandchildren, Emma and Anna Estephan, Seph, Kelsey and Chandler Alesch, Brett Oltmanns, Bryce & Brooke Alesch and Jordan Strubbe; a brother and his wife, Leon and Ardis Collins of Lake Park, Iowa,; two sisters, Bonnie Newberg of Alcester, South Dakota and Kaye and Lyle Antrim of Montrose, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Emma Collins; husband Donald Alesch; eight brothers; Robert, Glenn, Edwin "Bill", Ben, Bruce, Conrad, Richard and Dwight (in infancy); three sisters; Dorothy (in infancy), Betty Timmins, Mary Fronk; and son-in-law, Kevin Oltmanns.
