Mildred Vortherms, the daughter of Mike and Margaret (Engeldinger) Zenk, was born on October 24, 1919 in Alton, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Alton. When she was 17 years of age she lost her mother and helped her father raise her brothers and sister. Mildred was united in marriage to George Vortherms on January 4, 1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. After their marriage they farmed by Granville, Iowa before moving to Fulda, MN in 1951. They worked together in farming and raised their seven children. She moved into Fulda after George passed away in November of 1977. Mildred moved into the Maple View Estates in April of 2001 where she enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her dear friends at the Estates. She entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in April of 2011 and passed away there on August 4, 2011 at the age of 91. Mildred was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church and belonged to the FCCW and Rosary Club. She also belonged to the Fulda VFW and Legion Auxiliary and was a former member of the Fulda Pink Ladies. She enjoyed quilting, fishing, reading, making rosaries and loved socializing with her friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Mark) Schmidt of Mankato, their children Nick and Jodi, son Michael (Margene) Vortherms of Fulda, their children Mark (Sarah) and Matt; son David (Renee) Vortherms of Worthington, their children Jeff (Stacy), Greg (Jodi), Daniel (Amanda), and Kelly; son Richard (Linda) Vortherms of Windom, their children April (Gene), Nate (Jillian), and Lindsey; daughter Rosemary (Dale) Lauver of Council Bluffs, IA, their children Andrew (Jamie) and Katie (Greg); daughter Kathleen (Gary) Hanson of Madrid, IA, their children Gary(Olescia), Kristina(Brandon), and Brenda; daughter Darlene (Bob) Vortherms of Worthington, her children John(Jenny) and Ryan Nelsen, 18 grandchildren and 2 step- grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; her brothers: Monsignor Father Richard Zenk, Sioux City, and Donald (Viola) Zenk, Alton, IA, sister in law Corrine Zenk, Slayton, MN; relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, brothers, Milo, Alfred, Alvin, and Cyril Zenk and sister MaryAnn Full. Blessed be her memory.
