BOYDEN--Jeanette De Jong, 90, Boyden, died Friday, May 14, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.
Services were Wednesday, May 19, at United Presbyterian Church in Boyden, with the Rev. Randy Nicholas officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Boyden.
Jeanette De Jong, daughter of John and Tryntje (Beuckens) De Jong, was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Boyden. She received her education at Boyden Christian School and Boyden Public School. She worked as a housekeeper for a teacher before accepting a job as a clerk at Boyden Drug Store. She also worked as a cook at Hull Hospital and later as a bookkeeper at Boyden Cooperative Creamery and for Farmers Savings Bank in Boyden. She became a resident of George Good Samaritan Center in October 2003. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. She was an excellent seamstress, designing and making clothes for many of family members and friends. She also loved cooking, gardening, fancy work and reading. Survivors include a brother, Bernard De Jong of Lubbock, TX; two sisters, Eunice De Jong of Boyden and Joanne and Tenas De Jong of Tustin, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Henry De Jong and Frederick De Jong.
