Joe De Jong
December 22, 1898---- November 10, 1981
SANBORN--Funeral services were held Friday, November 13 at the First Reformed Church of Sanborn for Joe De Jong, 82, who passed away November 10 at Prairie View Home. Rev Gerald Osland officiated. Burial was in Memorial Gardens in Sioux Center with Sanborn Funeral Home Service in charge of arrangements
Mr. De Jong was born near Mattock on December 22, 1898, the son of Atse and Jetska De Jong. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Vande Garde of Hull on January 16, 1919. She preceded him in death in 1936. He was united in marriage to Nettie Smit of Boyden in March of 1943. They retired and moved back to Sabborn in 1963 and entered the Prairie View Home on October 15, 1981.
He is survived by his wife, Nettie; two sons. Gerard "Dutch" of Hinton, Arthur of Sumas, Wash.; one daugther Cornelia (Mrs. Richard) Osterkamp of Vermillion. S.D.; 19 grandchildren 32,
great-grandchildren one brother, Clarence of Grand Rapids, Mich., one sister, Coba Mulder of Artesia. Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, one daughter, Geneva, two sons, Gradus and James, two brothers, and one step-son, Roger Smit.
