Funeral services for Edward Van Veldhuizen, 84, of Rock Rapids, were held Monday, August 2 in the Jongewaard-Roste Funeral Home at Rock Rapids. The Rev. William De Young officiated. Van Veldhuizen died July 29 at Rock Rapids hospital after becoming ill at his home.

Mr. Van Veldhuizen was born March 3, 1898 in Ede, the Netherlands. He came to the United States and Sioux Center in 1912. He came to the Rock Valley area in 1916 where he worked as a hired man. He married Helen Smythe in March of 1942 in Rock Rapids. The couple farmed for 23 years at Browndale, Minn., and returned to Rock Rapids in 1965. Mrs. Van Veldhuizen died in 1972.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sophie Broekhuis of Rock Valley.
