Lucille Van Veldhuizen, 81, of Sanborn, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1993 at Prairie View Retirement Home at Sanborn.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. The Rev. Kenneth Tenckinck officiated. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery, Sanborn, under direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Van Veldhuizen was born May 26, 1911 at Hospers, the daughter of Dick and Martha (Boersma) Hofmeyer. She lived her youth in the Newkirk area and attended the Newkirk Consolidated Grade School. At the age of 12 she moved with her family to a farm near Matlock. She attended Samuel's School of Cosmetology in Sioux City. On Aug. 25, 1943 she married Gerrit Van Veldhuizen in Ponca, Neb. The couple made their home in Sanborn where he was a truck driver and she operated a beauty salon. She also was a beautician at the Prairie View Retirement Home for many years. Mr. Van Veldhuizen died Nov. 9, 1965.

Mrs. Van Veldhuizen was a member of the First Reformed Church at Sanborn where she had served as church organist and participated in the Guild and Circle. She also was a member of the Prairie View Auxiliary.

Survivors include two brothers, Virgil of Hartley and Eugene and his wife Jeneva of Sheldon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by two sisters-in-law.
