Mildred E. Linquist, 86, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, March 2, 1993 at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center in Grinnell.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 1993 in Denison Chapel of the Mayflower Home. The Rev. David Bowman, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational of Grinnell, will officiate. Following cremation, burial will be in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery at Kiron.

Mildred was the daughter of Allen and Wilhelmina Muilenburg Van Wechel and was born on May 16, 1906 at Maurice. She was raised in Orange City and graduated from Orange City High School in 1924. She received her BA degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

Mrs. Linquist taught rural school and was a critic teacher at Orange City, and from 1935-46 she taught at Kingsley Elementary School at Waterloo. From 1946-50 she taught in Sioux City.

On Dec. 26, 1950 she was married to Earl Linquist at Orange City. The couple farmed near Ida Grove and in 1958 they moved into Ida Grove to make their home. While living there she was a member of the United Methodist Church and was choir director of the church. She moved to Grinnell in 1969 and resided at the Mayflower Home. She was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational and the women's fellowship of the church. She was also a member of the Poweshiek County Retired Teacher's Association, the Magoun Club and PEO Chapter NF.

She is survived by two sisters, Helen Van Wechel and Geraldine Postma, both of Grinnell; and one brother, Clarence Van Wechel of McAllen, Tex.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and five brothers, Raymond, Kenneth, Melvin, Verlyn and Lloyd Van Wechel.

Memorials may be made to the Mayflower Home and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
