MAURICE--John Van Wechel, a 72-year-old bachelor, was found on the floor of his home Tuesday morning, January 15, after suffering a stroke. He was discovered by a neighbor. Mr. Van Wechel was taken to the Sioux Center hospital where he died the following day.

Mr. Van Wechel had lived in Maurice for a number of years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D. Laman on Friday, January 18, in the First Reformed church of Maurice. Van Etten funeral home was in charge. Mrs. Pierce Jansma and Mrs. Jake Foreman sang duets during the service. Interment was in the Orange City cemetery.

The only surviving relative, a nephew, Henry Vander Poel of Grand Rapids, Michigan, came to attend the funeral service.
