Lloyd Van Wechel, 69, of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1991 at the Mayflower Home Health Center.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1991 in Denison Chapel of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell with the Rev. David B. Bowman, pastor of the United Church of Christ - Congregational of Grinnell, officiating. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Oct. 25 at Westlawn Cemetery at Orange City with the Rev. Donald R. DeGlopper, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church, Orange City, officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Mayflower Home Human Needs Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

The son of Allen and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Muilenburg Van Wechel, Lloyd was born on April 24, 1922 at Orange City. He was later diagnosed with Down's Syndrome and lived in the care of his family. He received his education from his family and assisted the family with household duties. While living in Orange City he was a member of the American Reformed Church. In February 1971 he moved to Grinnell to live with his sister, Helen Van Wechel. While living in Grinnell, he was a member of the United Church of Christ - Congregational.

He is survived by three sisters, Helen Van Wechel, Mildred Linquist and Geraldine Postma, all of Grinnell; and four brothers, Clarence of McAllen, Tex., Raymond and Verlyn, both of Vinton, and Melvin of Mesa, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth.
