William Walker, 88, a resident of Hawarden for over 32 years, died last Friday at the Hawarden hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Williams of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery.
William Elmore Walker was born September 27, 1866 at Millville, Iowa. He spent his early years in southern Iowa near Silver City.
He married Lillian Elidy Thrapp, November 29, 1899, at Silver City. They lived at various places in Iowa and for a number of years they resided at Manilla, Iowa. Later they moved to Madison, SD, and for a time they farmed in South Dakota. In 1922 they returned to Hawarden and he lived here continuously since that time.
Five children were born to this union, three of whom preceded him in death. His wife died in 1939.
He made his home for many years with Mr. & Mrs. John Groen in Hawarden. He was a member of the Church of God. Due to his affliction of blindness he was unable to go about much.
Survivors are a son, Ivan Walker of Hawarden; a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Broman of Manilla, Iowa; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
