Sioux County Capital, December 4, 1986

Mrs. J. T. "Matty" Even, 83, of Alton passed away Thursday, Nov. 27 at the home of her daughter in Sioux City.

The former Blanche Agnes Sauer was born July 1, 1903, at Granville, the daughter of Henry Sauer and Mary Mulvany Sauer. On Nov. 3, 1925 she married Joseph Theodore Even at Alton. They made their home in Alton where Mr. Even passed away Sept. 15, 1981.

Mrs. Even was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, the Rosary Society, and she was past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America of the Court of St. Isidore. She was a charter member of Floyd Post 200, American Legion Auxiliary in Alton,, where she has held all offices. She had also been a member of the board of directors of the Alton Public Library.

Survivors include four sons, Joseph T. Jr., "Jay" and Mike, both of Alton; Jack of Aurora, Colo, and Jim of Medina, Ohio; two daughters, Mary Lois Even of Sioux City and Mrs. Jeff (Carol) Halstrom of Yuma, Ariz.; 31 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Evan was preceded in death by her son Tom, one granddaughter and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton with Monsignor Nicholas J. Ruba officiating. Interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery under direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
