Mrs. John Van Vugt, 61, of Orange City, died Monday [April 20] in the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Calvary Christian Reformed Church at Orange City. The Rev. John T. Ebbers officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home.

Mrs. Van Vugt, the former Janet Stam, was born June 29, 1919, at Westfield, N.D. She was married Dec. 15, 1945, at Westfield. She lived most of her life in North Dakota, moving to Orange City in 1972. She had worked at Northwestern College. She was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Society of the church.

Survivors include the widower; three sons, John of Hospers, Sturgis of Sioux Center and Arlyn at home; one daughter, Beth Van Vugt of Rochester, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Anna) Zandstra of Westfield, N.D., Mrs. Peter (Josephine) Van Vugt of Orange City, and Mrs. Gerrit (Dorothy) Rowerdink of Ellendale, N.D.; and four grandchildren.

A similar obituary in the Sioux Center News, April 29, 1981, adds that she died after a long illness; that her daughter Beth is an R.N. in the Methodist Hospital at Rochester; and that a young son and daughter preceded her in death.
