O. P. DeJong died at the poor farm in this county last Saturday at the age of seventy-four years, Mr. DeJong was a native of Holland and
was one of the colony that settled at Pella, this state, and later was one of the first settlers of Sioux county. Later he came to Plymouth county, met with reverses, and had to be
cared for by the county. He was the father of Pete DeJong, who was in the implement business in this city a few years ago, and who unceremoniously disappeared leaving his
family uncared for. The remains were taken to Orange City Sunday,for burial.—LeMars Post.
(This was found to be Otte Pieters DeJong who died 14 July 1898 in LeMars, buried in Orange city. According to marriage records in the Netherlands he was first married to Sjeuke Cornelus Hooghiemstra on 22 Jul 1854 at Hemelumer. They had at least one son Pieter born Feb 2, 1857, then she died and Otte married Hiltje Hendriks Mulder on 30 Sep 1859 at Hemelumer FR. Neth. Otte Pieters DeJong was 35 years bron at Wolvega and Hiltje was 36 born at Leeuwarden Fr. Neth. His parents were Pieter Ottes DeJong and Akke Machiels Zoethout. There may have been more children born to Otte and Hiltje.)
