The death of H. W. Minten, which occurred at his home in this city at 7:30 o'clock this Friday monring, has overshadowed a great. many hearts with grief and sorrow in this community, and the home that was once filled with, sunshine and happineiss is now enveloped in mourning for the departure of a, loving and devoted husband and father. Mr. Minten had been in ill health for a number of years, and although the relatives had been in a measure prepared for his demise, which was considered drily a question of time, it did not make, their pain and grief any lighter to bear, when the dark hour came.
H. W. Minten was born at Fussville, Wis,, March 13, 1858, and was a littie more than forty years of age at the time of his death. On October
2, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Brill at that city, and in 1887 they removed to Alton, Iowa and located on a farm. Seven children were born to bless their union, six daughters and one son, four of whom are living at this time, In 1890 Mr, Minten removed to this city and engaged in the hardware business, which he continued until this spring, being forced to retire from business on account of his rapidly failing health. He was popular
as a biisiness man, and as a citizen,and was held in the highest esteem and friendship by all with, whom he cariie in contact. To those who knew him best and in his home life, his genial nature and pleasant personality was like a ray of sunshine.
Those left to mourn his death besides his wife and four daughters, the youngest of whom is about two years of age, are his father and mother,Mr. and Mrs,. B. Minten, six brothers, Barney, Chris, John, Matt, Will, and Frank, and one sister, Mrs. Joe Hildesheim, all of this city.
The funeral will be held next Monday, at 9 o'clock, a. m., from St. Mary's church, in this city.
THE DEMOCRAT extends condolence and sympathy to the bereaved relatives and friends in this their hour of grief.
