ERIC ERICKSON SUCCUMBS TO HEART ATTACK
Prominent Farmer Passed Away Last Thursday
Was Overseas Veteran of First World War and Took Active Part in All Community Affairs

Eric Erickson, prominent Union county farmer, passed away suddenly at his home, six miles southwest of Hawarden, shortly before 8 o'clock last Thursday morning [April 8] following a heart attack.

Mr. Erickson had just returned to the house with an armful of wood for the stove when he was stricken. He died about ten minutes later. He had suffered a slight attack Sunday preceding his death, but aside from this he apparently was in good health.

Funeral services were held at the Associated church in Hawarden at 2:30 Monday afternoon with Rev. Clarence W. Hanscom in charge. J. T. Halloran sang two numbers. Interment was in Grace Hill cemetery.

Eric Erickson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Erickson, was born on the home farm Dec. 14, 1892, and so was some past 50 years of age at the time of his death. He spent practically all his life on this farm and received his education in the Williams school. He served his country in World War No. 1 and spent about a year overseas.

Following the death of his father in 1925, he assumed the responsibilities of operating the farm with the assistance of his brothers, Albert and Kermit.

Mr. Erickson always took an active past in the affairs of his community. At the time of his death he was serving as trustee of Virginia township and had been a member of the soil conservation committee of Union county since its organization several years ago. He also served on the school board for many years. His death is a distinct loss not only to his family but to his community, to which he willingly gave much of his time and efforts.

He is survived by four brothers and two sisters. They are Mrs. Eric Nelson and Albert and Lawrence Erickson of Hawarden; Mrs. Tillie Linten of Sterling, Ill.; Corp. Kermit Erickson, who is stationed at Camp Barkeley, Texas; and Pvt. Everitt Erickson of Camp White, Ore. He also leaves eight nieces and six nephews.

Mrs. Linten and Corp. Kermit and Pvt. Everitt Erickson came to attend the funeral.
