Josephine Louise Espeset, 90, of Sioux Center, formerly of Estherville, died Thursday, May 8, at Sioux Center Nursing Facility in Sioux Center.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Estherville Lutheran Church at Estherville with Pastor Ray Miller and Visitation Pastor Wayne Vermeer officiating. Burial was in Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Espeset, the daughter of Lars Andreas & Ellen Josefina (Endresen) Handeland, was born June 4, 1912 in Estherville. She received her education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1930. After graduation, she attended Estherville Junior College and Luther College. On June 26, 1949, she married Arnt R. Espeset, Jr. in Estherville. She taught in rural schools in Emmet County for 13 years. Following her teaching career she was employed at her sister and brother-in-law's business, Paris Cleaners, as a presser. In October of 1996, the couple moved to Sioux Center, and in 1997 she became a resident of the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center Nursing wing.

She was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church and involved in many activities including Sunday School superintendent, president of Ladies Aide and Circle Chairman. Music was a very important part of her life and for many years she sang with her family quartet and the church choir.

Surivors include her husband, Arnt of Sioux Center; daughter, Janet Henryson and her husband Bruce of Sioux Center; one brother, Loyd Handeland of Forest City; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Birger, Reinholdt, Andy (Eliam Anderas), Alfred and Birger; and sisters, Bergliot, Manghild, Clara and Jennie.
