Last rites were held at the American Reformed church Tuesday moring for Mr. Hessell Van Eizenga, 65, an Orange City resident for over 30 years.
Mrs. VanEizenga died Saturday evening, January 3, at Grossmann hospital, after suffering a stroke at the American Church earlier that day, where she was helping prepare lunch for a bereaved family. She had not been in the best of health for some time, but had not been bedridden or noticeably ill.
Rev. Alvin Hook conducted the final services, for which Eugene Mulder presented vocal music. Pall bearers were listed...
Interment was made at Orange City cemetery with Van Etten's in charge.
Mrs. Van Eizenga as born Ida May, daughter of Wm. C. and Clara May, at Paunee NE, Jun 17, 1893. Most of her youth was spent at Lebanon KS to which comunity the family moved when she was a young girl. She came to Orange City in January, 1926, following her brother, John, who was in the restaurant business here; and was employed in the offices of the Sioux Abstract Co.
Her marriage to Hessel Van Eizenga occurred Oct. 3, 1931, at Brookings. SD. The couple, who celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary this past fall, had one son, Jacob; who, along with Mr. Van Eizenga survives.
Other relatives surviving are a brother Floyd May, of Chicago, who was here for the services; a sister in law, Mrs. John May of Bellflower, CA and a nephew Bill May of Spirit Lake, also here for the funeral.
A regular attendant at the American Reformed church in Orange City, Mrs. VAn Eizenga also was an active member of Eastern Star.
