HENRY DYKSTRA
Mr. Henry Dykstra, age 87, of Maurice, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, March 23, at 1:30pm, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Rev. Wayne Sneller and the Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sherman Township Cemetery, near Maurice. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Henry was born on December 19, 1919, at Orange City, the son of John D. and Gertie (Vander Mey) Dykstra. He was raised in Sioux County and served in the United States Army during World War II.

On November 25, 1947, he married Hattie Dykstra in Rock Valley. They first made their home in Le Mars, where he was a custodian at the Le Mars Public School. He also operated a shoe repair shop there. They then moved to Sioux Center, where he was the custodian at the Kinsey Elementary School for thirty years. They later retired into Maurice. Hattie passed away on November 27, 1999, in Maurice.

In 2003, Mr. Dykstra became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In 2005, he transferred to the Kosgrove Estate at Sioux Center.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he had served on the consistory. He enjoyed gardening and tinkering in his shop.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Helen and Roger Oolman, of Orange City; and Harold and Carla Dykstra, of Hudson, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Brian Oolman, and his wife, Kim, and their children, Breanna and Austin; Brent Oolman, and his wife, Tara, and their son, Conner; Amy (Oolman), and her husband, Terry Aberson, and their children, Tyler and Ashlyn; Eric Oolman, and his fiance', Jessica Stevens; Rebecca Dykstra, and her friend, Graig Jacobson, and their children, Kendra, Jillian, and Gavin Dykstra; Joe Dykstra, and his wife, Emily, and their son, Mason; and Nick Dykstra; a brother, Johnny Dykstra, of Orange City; and two sisters, Tillie Chambers, of Bellflower, California; and Gert Taylor, of Glendale, Arizona.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant, daughter, Glenda; a sister, Cora Mitchell; and an infant brother, Richard.
